BioCellgraft Welcomes Dr. Lorenzo Tavelli and Dr. Shayan Barootchi to Its Leadership Team
BioCellgraft is proud to announce the addition of two highly passionate, sophisticated, dynamic, influential, and deeply experienced oral surgery experts to our team, which is focused on the identification, development, and commercialization of regenerative therapies in oral care.
We are presently focused on the long-anticipated launch of OraFyl, our flagship placental-derived, decellularized human connective tissue matrix, developed for homologous use in oral care. We have been working diligently toward making OraFyl available to practitioners, and we are excited about the interest and early clinical experience that continue to develop around its use.
Already utilized in countless cases by some of the most well-known practitioners and educators in the field, OraFyl is generating meaningful interest as we work toward expanding its availability. We firmly believe in letting the practitioners speak for themselves and share their experiences with OraFyl. In the coming weeks and months, we look forward to sharing more about the clinical experiences, handling, ease of use, and observations from the practitioners who have been working with OraFyl.

Dr. Lorenzo Tavelli, DDS, MS, PhD — Chief Clinical Officer | BioCellgraft, Inc.
Dr. Tavelli is a periodontist, clinical researcher, and part-time faculty member at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. A Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, his clinical and research work focuses on microsurgical and minimally invasive soft tissue grafting procedures around teeth and dental implants. An internationally recognized speaker and researcher, Dr. Tavelli has published more than 180 scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals. His clinical expertise, research contributions, and commitment to advancing regenerative dentistry bring tremendous value to BioCellgraft and our continued efforts to advance OraFyl.
Dr. Shayan Barootchi, DMD, MS — Chief Science Officer | BioCellgraft, Inc.
Dr. Barootchi is an internationally recognized periodontist and clinician-scientist whose work focuses on periodontal and peri-implant plastic surgery, immediate implant therapy, and the management of implant disease and complications. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology, and President-Elect of the International Society of Periodontal Plastic Surgeons, with his presidency scheduled to begin in October 2026.
With more than 150 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Barootchi's research spans basic and translational science, animal models, and human randomized controlled trials. His work includes innovations in tissue perfusion assessment, minimally invasive microsurgical techniques, and wound-healing biomarkers. His contributions have earned numerous prestigious honors, including the Academy of Osseointegration's Best Clinical Innovations Award and multiple awards from the American Academy of Periodontology.
Dr. Barootchi is a faculty member at Harvard School of Dental Medicine and an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan. He is also Associate Editor of the Journal of Periodontal Research and Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research. Alongside Dr. Tavelli, he co-founded TissueX, a surgical education platform dedicated to advancing clinical education in periodontal and peri-implant plastic surgery. His scientific leadership, clinical research experience, and passion for education will be instrumental as we continue developing BioCellgraft and advancing regenerative therapies in oral care.
Together, Dr. Tavelli and Dr. Barootchi bring a combined record of more than 320 publications in the field of regenerative dentistry, reflecting the depth of scientific knowledge, clinical experience, and research expertise that they bring to BioCellgraft. We are incredibly fortunate to have these accomplished leaders working alongside us as we continue building our company and advancing OraFyl.
They both join a growing host of clinical advisors and key opinion leaders who have experienced OraFyl and share a strong passion for advancing therapies in regenerative dentistry. BioCellgraft will be introducing these influential and extremely helpful KOLs in the coming weeks, along with other leadership team members who will be joining us.
